Dental Crowns and Bridges
Dental crowns and bridges are effective restorations for lost or severely damaged teeth. They provide a natural look and help with chewing and speaking. We use high-quality materials to ensure they last long and perform well.
At Mount Vernon Smile Design, we ensure your dental crowns and bridges will blend seamlessly with your existing teeth and function like natural teeth. You’ll need to visit at least twice to receive dental crowns or bridges. During the first visit, we’ll take impressions of your teeth and send them to a dental laboratory. Once the crown or bridge is ready, you can return to have it fitted to ensure it fits properly.

What is a dental crown?
Dental crowns are used when a tooth has an extensive filling that exceeds the natural tooth structure when a tooth has had root canal therapy, or for cosmetic reasons.
Dental crowns have multiple applications. Firstly, they can be placed over a damaged tooth to cap the existing structure, restoring the damaged tooth so it can be used normally. Crowns can also be attached to dental implants to replace missing teeth. These implants are surgically inserted into the jawbone and serve as the root for the tooth, keeping the crown steady and secure.
Furthermore, dental crowns may provide extra support for dental bridges. They do not require special treatment and can be brushed and flossed as usual.

What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is often used when a patient has lost one or more teeth. It consists of one or more replacement teeth that fill the gap left by the missing teeth. Dental bridges can be secured using crowns on each end or permanently installed precision metal mechanisms. At Mount Vernon Smile Design, we customize each component of a dental bridge to ensure that it looks natural and functions as desired.

How do temporary dental crowns work?
Your dentist needs to shape the base underneath it to create an accurate impression of your teeth for the permanent dental crown. This can leave your tooth vulnerable between taking the impression and getting the final crown. Therefore, the dentist will place a temporary dental crown to protect your tooth during this period.
When you return for the fitting appointment, the dentist will remove the temporary crown and place the permanent crown or bridge onto the prepared tooth base.
